NSU Researcher Receives Third Fulbright Award

Marcia Neblett, NSU Assistant Professor of Fine ArtsMarcia Neblett, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts, was awarded the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award to Malaysia for 2023. The award is from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. The Fulbright award provides U.S. Scholars a chance to lecture and research abroad.

“Our presidentially appointed 12-member board is responsible for supervising the Fulbright Program worldwide and approving the selection of all Fulbright recipients,” said Ambassador Jeffrey L. Bleich, Chair of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. “The Fulbright Program is devoted to increasing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Fulbright is the world’s largest and most diverse international educational exchange program.”

Neblett, a previous Fulbright Scholar in India in 2007 and 2014, will lecture and research at the Malaysian Institute of Art, Kuala Lumpur, in contemporary drawing and printmaking this summer.

“The Fulbright award is a valuable opportunity to engage in the exchange of creative research and culture with professors and students in Kuala Lumpur at MIA,” Neblett said.

Neblett will be lecturing as a Fulbright Specialist in undergraduate courses with MIA illustration students. She will also research contemporary trends in drawing and block printmaking, examining available tools for carving and drawing, as well as specialty papers for both block printing and drawing.

Fulbright scholars are committed to establishing open communication and long-term cooperative relationships, representing their home country, and working collaboratively with international partners.

Fulbright scholars “exemplify the qualities of service, leadership, and excellence that have been hallmarks of this Program for more than 73 years,” said Bleich.

Neblett, a recognized expert in her field of drawing and woodblock printmaking, has a record of national and international exhibitions at museums and galleries that include: Virginia MOCA, Virginia Beach, Virginia; The Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, New York; The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Bronx, New York; AIR Gallery, Brooklyn, New York; Salmagundi Club, New York, New York; Nehru Centre, Mumbai, India; Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai, India; Ojas Gallery, New Delhi, India; and Art Space, Dubai.

She received her bachelor’s from Purchase College, The State University of New York, and her MFA from Stony Brook University. She begins her third Fulbright service on June 2, 2023.
