Community & Professional Education Programs

Community Education at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center provides non-traditional students a diverse selection of opportunities for personal enrichment, to increase knowledge in a variety of subjects, and to increase or obtain career skills.

Continuing Education Units (CEU's)

A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is defined as following: Ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction. The CEU can be applied to professional and vocational retraining, and adult liberal education, as well as to other continuing education programs.

Continuing Education Classroom Courses

Offering a wide variety of seminars, short courses, certificate programs and distance education opportunities for those who want to enhance their skills and gain training on various topics relating to continuing education curriculum.

Online Programs & Classes

Norfolk State University, in partnership with professional career certification programs provide online, in classroom and blended (Classroom with Online) learning options. Our programs are in demand, portable, flexible and provide the opportunity to reenter the workforce with a certification to jumpstart your career.

Reclamation Program

The Reclamation or Readmission program is designed to facilitate the education and subsequent graduation of Norfolk State University students who have left the institution prior to earning their degree. 

Spartan Prep Academy

Spartan Prep Academy introduces students to the many advantages of continuing their education beyond high school and to the specific programs available at Norfolk State University (NSU). This partnership between Norfolk State University at the Virginia Beach High Educational Center (VBHEC) and the Virginia Beach City Public Schools is designed to promote college awareness. The goal of this initiative is to increase the enrollment of minority students from Virginia Beach City Public Schools in post secondary institutions.
