Minor in Astronomy

The Minor in Astronomy is an ideal complementary minor primarily for students majoring in mathematics, engineering, or the sciences. All science students are invited to complete the astronomy minor. Students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics are the main target for this minor.


Total number of credits: 18 credits.

Required Core

  • College Physics I PHY 152 (3 cr)
  • College Physics II PHY 153 (3 cr)
  • General Astronomy AST 201 (3 cr)
  • (or University Physics I and II, PHY 160 and 162)

Advanced (choose three of the following courses)

  • Introduction to Astrophysics AST 303 (3cr)
  • Methods of Observational Astronomy AST 301 (3cr) Astrobiology AST 302 (3cr)
  • Stellar Astrophysics AST 401 (3cr)
