Nationally Syndicated Radio Host Tom Joyner to be Featured at NSU Annual Green and Gold Ball and Forever Upward Awards Ceremony
Nationally syndicated radio host Tom Joyner will be a featured presenter at Norfolk State University’s Annual Green and Gold Ball and Forever Upward Awards Ceremony Saturday, March 29 at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel and Waterfront Conference Center. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception followed by dinner, the Forever Upward Awards Ceremony and dancing
Norfolk State University’s annual Forever Upward Awards Ceremony and the Green & Gold Ball will be held on Saturday, March 29 at the Renaissance Portsmouth Hotel and Waterfront Conference Center. Tickets are $75 and will be available on March 1. Tickets may be purchased in the Office of University Advancement (HBW Hall, Suite 410). Proceeds from this stellar event will benefit student
scholarship and educational programs.
The 2003 Forever Upward Awards will be presented in four categories: Academic, Alumnus, Government/Public Service and
Service. This year’s recipients are as follows:
Academic Award--Dr. S. Raj Chaudhury, an NSU faculty member since 1995, is an associate professor of physics. He has worked diligently to enhance teaching and learning of science through the application of technology. His students often comment on his love of teaching and physics. Through his efforts he has increased research funding for the university, founded the BEST lab and encourages students to pursue careers in the physical sciences.
Alumnus Award--Colonel Chauncey F. Crenshaw (U.S. Army retired) is a 1968 graduate of NSU who has served as a global ambassador for the university. Colonel Crenshaw was appointed by the Governor or Virginia to the NSU Board of Visitors in 1997 and served through 2001. His professional affiliations include the Board of Directors for the NSU National Alumni Association and founder and member of the Military Chapter of the NSU National Alumni Association, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the National Defense Transportation Association, Washington, D.C. Chapter.
Government/Public Service Award-- Founded in 1950, The Norfolk Foundation is the oldest community foundation in Virginia. As a community foundation, The Norfolk Foundation provides a vehicle for people of all means to make lasting contributions to their communities by creating perpetual funds. The Norfolk Foundation has provided financial support for countless community service projects including assisting Franklin businesses owners after the 1999 flood, providing funds for student scholarships, and providing financial support to area arts and theater groups. The Norfolk Foundation’s goal is to ensure that pressing community needs are being met.
Service Award--Mr. Harvey Lindsay is the chairman of NAI Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate. He has served the Hampton Roads community tirelessly through many volunteer and charitable efforts. He currently serves on the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance and the Tidewater Scholarship Foundation. He is the past recipient of United Way’s Alexis De Tocqueville Society award, the Urban League’s Vivian Mason Meritorious Service Award and he has also served on the Norfolk State University Foundation Board of Directors.
