P urpose
The Elementary Education Department provides
undergraduate & graduate programs for students seeking
preparation to work with young children in the community,
agencies and public school settings.
Interdisciplinary Studies/English/Elementary Education
Students seeking certification in Elementary Education
(K-6) can pursue a degree in the liberal arts/sciences with
emphasis on English. Students are admitted to the School of
Education at the end of 60 hours of course work and passing
scores on PRAXIS I.
Interdisciplinary Studies/Mathematics/Elementary Education
Students seeking certification in Elementary Education
(K-6) can pursue a degree in the liberal arts/sciences with
emphasis on Mathematics. Students are admitted to the School
of Education at the end of 60 hours of course work and
passing scores on PRAXIS I.
Interdisciplinary Studies/History/Elementary Education
Students seeking certification in Elementary Education
(K-6) can pursue a degree in the liberal arts/sciences with
emphasis on History. Students are admitted to the School of
Education at the end of 60 hours of course work and passing
scores on PRAXIS I.
Psychology/Elementary Education
Students seeking certification in Elementary Education
(K-6) can pursue a degree in Psychology with a thorough
behavioral science background. Students are admitted to the
School of Education at the end of 60 hours of course work
and passing scores on PRAXIS I.
Child Care Option
Students seeking a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood
Development can take courses in the Early Childhood
Development/Child Care Option. This program is designed
for students who want to work as teachers and/or directors
in preschool, Head Start or child care settings. This
program does not lead toward licensure.
Undergraduate Certification
Students with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts
programs can seek certification in Elementary Education
(K-6). Students are required to have a 2.5 or better grade
point average and passing scores on PRAXIS I prior to
admission to the School of Education.
Laboratory Facilities
The Center for Professional Laboratory Experiences has
the responsibility for providing all formal laboratory
experiences, observation/participation, directed teaching,
and internships for persons wishing to enter the profession
of teaching.
