Outreach and Workshops
Outreach is a service provided to assist
with the personal development of students. We offer workshops and programs
that focus on relevant issues that students face on a daily basis. These
issues include but are not limited to stress management, relationships,
adjusting to college, depression, and substance abuse.
If you are interested in having us conduct an outreach program or workshop
for your class, residents or organization please complete a
Workshop Request Form
and submit it to the Counseling Center via email or fax. Of course you may also
call the Counseling Center and speak directly to our staff about your request.
The Counseling Center makes a strong effort to meet all requests for our
programs. In order to best meet your needs we ask that you provide the Center
with at least two weeks advance notice when requesting programs.
Don't Cancel That Class Series
(Outreach in the Class)
The Counseling Center program
"Don't Cancel That Class Series" is a series of psycho educational workshops
designed to support teaching faculty, provide students with co-curricular
learning experiences, and extend the Counseling Center's efforts to reach
students.
The workshops address topics
such as adjusting to college, dealing with procrastination, stress management,
student mental health issues, substance abuse education, and developing healthy
relationships. If a course instructor is unable to lecture on a given day, she
or he can request that a Counseling Center staff member come to this lecture
section and present one of these workshops
Depression
and Anxiety Screening Days
During both the fall and spring
semesters the Counseling Center conducts outreach programs that provide students
with the opportunity to complete a brief screening for depression and anxiety
and receive educational materials on these topics.
From the screening students are
provided with feedback regarding the likelihood that they might have depression
and/or a problem with anxiety. At the screenings students are able to schedule
follow-up meetings with our counselors to gain a better understanding of the
extent of their problems and learn more about how to receive assistance for
depression and anxiety problems.
