Welcome to the School of Business
Welcome
to the School of Business at Norfolk State University (NSU). Norfolk State
University School of Business enrolls over 900 baccalaureate students in eight
areas of concentration: Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management,
Management Information Systems, Marketing, and Tourism & Hospitality Management.
The School has distinguished itself among its peers. It is one of the first
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) to be accredited by the
premier business school accrediting body--the Association to Advance Collegiate
Schools of Business (AACSB International).
Of the approximately 450 AACSB-accredited schools of business throughout the
world, fewer than 15 are HBCU, and fewer than five are undergraduate-only
programs such as NSU. AACSB International accreditation represents the highest
standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. This accreditation is
the hallmark of excellence in Management education.
Other distinctions the NSU School of Business is proud of include the Ernest
M. Hodge Center for Entrepreneurship, initially funded by a grant from the
prestigious Kauffman Foundation. The Entrepreneurship program is one of few in
the country offered as a business concentration. The Accounting program
graduates are recruited by the big four accounting firms as well as Fortune 500
companies. The Tourism & Hospitality program is the largest at HBCU. Also,
highly qualified students in other School of Business programs pursue
responsible positions in Finance, Management, Marketing, and Information
Systems/Technology in leading corporations and attend premier graduate schools
throughout the country. These academic programs may account for the fact that
NSU ranks in the top ten universities nationally for the number of business
degrees conferred upon African Americans.
The School of Business is committed to offering viable programs and academic
tracks to serve the needs of students in the new economy, and to preparing them
for leadership roles in society. The School focuses on excellence in teaching
and learning. To accomplish that, our faculty members engage in intellectual
contributions and professional involvement with the business community.
I invite you to explore our programs and visit the Norfolk State University
Campus. We welcome your inquiry.
