What are your admissions requirements?
To be accepted to Norfolk State University, a student needs to meet the
following requirements:

What is the financial aid timeline and how do we
get the required forms??
Our priority deadline for financial aid is March 15, and the form is
available in the
Financial Aid section of this Web site.
What are your housing deadlines, if any?
All housing deposits are due by May 31. This date applies to incoming
freshmen as well as returning students. Students who pay the deposit after
this deadline are not guaranteed a room. The total housing deposit is
$300.00.

What happens if my son/daughter is not sure of a
major?
There is an advisor who is assigned to students who come into the
university as undeclared majors. We also have a career services office on
campus to assist students with choosing a major.

What is your average class size?
- The student:faculty ratio for the 2005-2006 academic
year is 17:1.
- The average class size for the academic year is 18.
What is there to do outside of the class?
There are a host of clubs and organizations that students can become a
part of. In addition, NSU is surrounded by an area rich in culture,
recreation, and history. Only minutes away are the Waterside Festival
Marketplace and Town Pointe Park where you can dine or attend an outdoor
festival.
If you are in the mood to shop, the upscale MacArthur
Center Mall is within walking distance from the campus. Looking for a
refreshing way to unwind? Well Norfolk State University's campus is just
twenty-five minutes away from the resort city of Virginia Beach. A
forty-five minute drive to Colonial Williamsburg will allow you to see real
life re-enactments that showcase what life was like for our early American
settlers.
Are freshmen allowed to have cars on campus?
Freshmen who reside on campus are not allowed to have cars their first
year. The exception to this rule is for students who have a part-time job
off campus or students who have some type of medical condition which
requires them to go to the doctor frequently.
Are your dorms co-ed living?
Presently, Norfolk State University does not have any co-ed living dorms.
However, we do have co-ed visitation. Visitations hours are from 4:00 p.m. -
10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. Friday &
Saturday.
