ACCESS Plus Summer Bridge Program
Summer Bridge Brochure
Mission of the Program
The ACCESS Plus Summer Bridge Program is a multi-faceted comprehensive program
designed to facilitate and improve student success, retention and graduation
rates of possible at-risk students who have been admitted to the University for
the upcoming fall semester. Emphasis is on intrusive academic advising, which
involves selecting specific courses, strengthening basic skills, reinforcing
classroom instruction, and enhancing overall student academic, personal, social
and career development.

The Norfolk State University (NSU) ACCESS Plus Summer Bridge Program is a
four-week, non-residential program that allows select first-time freshmen
students to experience the NSU environment prior to entering the fall term. The
Office of First Year Experience and Academy for Collegiate Excellence and
Student Success (ACCESS) are responsible for administering the program. On
campus accommodations for students are available upon request and at the
individuals’ expense. The ACCESS Summer Bridge Program provides tuition and
textbooks to the selected participants. The program will run tentatively from
June 28-July 23, 2010.
The students invited to participate in the ACCESS Plus Summer Bridge Program
have been admitted to the University for the upcoming fall semester, and would
benefit from academic strengthening in the areas of English, Math, or Computer
Literacy. Success in learning the content of these courses is a prerequisite
for success in core courses at the University level.
The ACCESS Plus students will bridge the gap between high school and college
through academic coursework and the opportunity to build relationships and

four courses available from the following list of courses:
-
ENG 100D-
Introduction to College Communications (Writing)
-
ENG 101-

-

-
CSC 150-

graduation.
